Valley Point School, 1934-2000 - Valley Point was the largest consolidated rural school in the state of Georgia during the 1930s and 1940s. The building merged the one- and two-room schools of the Carbondale, Center Point, Dug Gap, Five Springs, Redwine Cove, Tilton, and Union districts. The building was considered first class for a school in the early 1930s. It had good oiled floors to the keep the dust controlled. Each teacher was responsible for keeping the room clean. One side of each room was all windows. There was no artificial lighting except in the auditorium, office, library, and later added to the shop building and home economics room. Water was supplied by wells for drinking and restrooms. A back wing was added in 1939 for the high school. After 1954, the building housed grades 1-8 and the high school moved to a separate building west of this location. The last year of Valley Point High School was 1974-75. Southeast Whitfield High School opened in August 1975 and combined students from Valley Point High School and Eastbrook High School. The high school building became Valley Point Middle School, housing grades 6-8. In 2000, the historic 1934 building was torn down and replaced with the new (current) Valley Point Elementary School. In 2020, the historic 1953 building was torn down and replaced with the new (current) Valley Point Middle School.

Meet Our Principals
Brittany Sewell
Principal
brittany.sewell@wcsga.net
Mrs. Sewell lives in Varnell with her husband of 23 years, Aaron, her daughter Macy, and her 3-year-old dog Riggs. Macy attends Northwest Whitfield High School while her big sister Mia attends Georgia Southern University.
The Sewells are active members of Tunnel Hill Community Church. They are also a sports family and love watching all kinds of sports live and on tv. They love to travel and map out the destinations beforehand to make the most out of their trip.....food, excursions, hiking, highlights, and more. Mrs. Sewell and her husband enjoy attending festivals and concerts with live music. Most of all, family is everything to them, and they enjoy family meals together where they talk and laugh around the table. It is a precious reminder of how delicate and how important life is when enjoying it with family and close friends.
Mrs. Sewell's experience includes 18 years of teaching 4th and 5th grades at New Hope Elementary, 2 years serving as an Instructional Coach at North Whitfield Middle School, and 2 years of serving as Assistant Principal at Valley Point Elementary. She is now principal at the BEST SCHOOL in the whole world, Valley Point Elementary.... She loves her job!
How does Mrs. Sewell feel about education in general? She has this to say:
I refer to myself as an educator and not until asked specifically is it, that I tell someone I am a principal. I love being a principal and it is the best job in the world because I love my school; however, I have felt push back from these same spoken words and never want anyone to think, I think I am better because of formal schooling. My grandmother and mother are/were the two smartest people I know and never graduated college, yet, they have so much KNOWLEDGE. "Knowledge and education are two things no one can take away from you" is a popular and inspirational saying. The essence of this quote is that once you acquire knowledge and education, they become a permanent part of you, and no one can remove or steal them from you. Knowledge refers to the information, facts, and skills you gain through learning and experience. Education, on the other hand, often refers to the formal process of acquiring knowledge through schooling, but it can also include self-education and lifelong learning. Even in adverse situations or challenging circumstances, your knowledge and education can serve as a foundation for personal growth and success. They can also provide a sense of empowerment and independence, as they are not subject to loss. This quote underscores the importance of investing in your personal education and continuous learning as a means to empower oneself and build a more resilient and adaptable future, whether that is formal college, trade school, or hours of watching and learning from someone older and wiser than you. In all times, make it a point to always LEARN.
