School—Parent Compacts

What is a School-Parent Compact?

Updated May 20, 2025 — A School-Parent Compact for Achievement is an agreement that parents, students, and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all our students reach grade-level standards.

Effective compacts:

Link to goals of the school improvement plan
Focus on student learning skills
Describe how teachers will help students develop those skills using high-quality instruction
Share strategies parents can use at home
Explain how teachers and parents will communicate about student progress

The parents, students, and staff of Valley Point Elementary School developed this School-Parent Compact for Achievement. Teachers suggested home learning strategies, parents added ideas to make them more specific, and students told us what would help them learn. Meetings are held annually to review the Compact and make changes based on student needs.

Goals for Student Achievement

District Goals

Goal 1: Increase the WCS graduation rate from 91.13% to 93.13% over the next three years for all students.
Goal 2: Reduce the achievement gap(s) in English Language Arts & Mathematics.
Goal 3: To increase the capacity of all WCS teachers and leaders to enhance student learning through evidence-based professional learning.

School Goals and Focus Areas
Valley Point Elementary administrators and teachers have studied our student performance data to determine the most important areas of improvement for our school.

Goal 1: Increase student overall academic performance as measured on CCRPI by 3% through the technology equipment and infrastructure needed to support the integration of curriculum and technology.
Goal 2: Increase the percentage of students achieving at Levels 3 and 4 in Mathematics by 3% in grades 3-5 on Georgia Milestones. Increase the percentage of K-2 students that score on or above grade level RIT on the MAP Mathematics test.
Goal 3: Increase the percentage of students achieving at Levels 3 and 4 in ELA by 3% in grades 3-5 on Georgia Milestones. Increase the percentage of K-2 students that score on or above grade level RIT on the MAP ELA test.

1. Align instruction to the Georgia Standards of Excellence.

2. Provide students the opportunity each day to speak, write, read and listen (SWRL) using academic language.

3. Communicate with parents often (in their native language) and offer suggestions for how to help students succeed (online resources, how to study more effectively, making up missing assignments, etc.)

4. Keep grades updated in Infinite Campus and communicate important information with parents and students through Class Dojo.

5. Provide a variety of assignment options that allow for differentiation and encourage student collaboration.

6. Build a learning community where students feel safe and learning is supported.

7. Monitor and assess student progress.

Family Responsibilities at Home

1. Help your child at home. Read with them daily and practice math facts. Reach out to the teacher for more suggestions.

2. Ask your child every night if he or she has homework and find ways to reinforce good study habits. Make sure your child gets enough sleep each night by removing distractions.

3. Sign up for Class Dojo so that you are aware of important information such as upcoming assignments and tests.

4. Pay close attention to progress reports so you know how your child is doing in each class. Reach out to the teacher if your child is not making adequate progress.

5. Respond to teacher communication and attend parent-teacher conferences as needed to keep your child on track to be successful.
